Weight Loss Diets: Healthier Choices for Salad Dressings
Most people think when they are eating healthy that salads and veggies are a natural choice. It is only healthy is you can steer clear of the thick, creamy dressings and use a lighter alternative
No doubt salad dressings are very good, anything creamy is usually going to be good. But not when you are trying to eat healthy and lose some calories. There are other dressings that are much healthier
One option is to try salad dressings made with balsamic vinegar. You can make your own at home using one part oil to one part vinegar. You can also add other seasonings for taste, to make it just like you want it
While olive oil and flaxseed oil have fat and calories, they are a healthy source of fat that your body needs. In fact, flaxseed oil is used by so many organs of your body that it’s almost impossible for it to be converted into fat cells.
Another way to dress up your salad without adding extra fat is to squeeze a little lemon juice on your salad. It gives it a tart sweetness that many dieters enjoy.
You can also choose bottled dressings that are vinaigrette style and have fewer calories and fat grams. However, steer clear of low-fat and non-fat dressings. While they may be lower in fat, they often have just as many (if not more) calories. Why? Because to replace the flavor from fat, dressing manufacturers often load the bottle with sugar!
When you are trying to break old dining habits, try ordering the dressing on the side of your salad. You will find this is an easy way to cut calories.
If you order your salad dressing on the side, you simply dip your fork into it and then pick up a bite of salad with your fork. You will find this method works well for saving hundreds of calories and you won’t consume half as much dressing as you thought you needed.
